THE Post Office has announced plans to relocate Great Ayton Post Office.

A spokesperson said the current postmaster has resigned, and the premises at 3 Park Square will no longer be available for Post Office use from Wednesday, October 20 at 3pm.

Instead, a “local-style” branch will operate from Thompsons Hardware, at 1 Park Square from Monday, November 1 at 1pm.

During the transfer, the nearest alternative branches will include Stokesley Post Office on the High Street, and Nunthorpe Station Post Office, at 99 Guisborough Road.

The Post Office spokesperson said: “The new postmaster is making modifications and extending his own premises to incorporate the Post Office and current newsagents business into his store to ensure the service continues for the community.

“Post Office services will be provided at two low-screened, open-plan, modern serving points. Access to the new premises is much improved for disabled customers as there will be level access.

“The branch will offer the same wide range of Post Office products and services.”

The new Post Office opening hours will be Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm and 9am to 12.30pm on Saturdays – an extra six hours per week than at present.

Feedback on the proposed move can be submitted until November 2. Customers can share their views during the consultation online at postofficeviews.co.uk with the branch code 180327. Submissions can also be made via email to comments@postoffice.co.uk, by post to Freepost YOUR COMMENTS, by telephone on 03452 66 01 15 or Textphone to 03457 22 33 55.
