A PLEA has gone out this week for new teams to join the Wensleydale Creamery League after the season kicked off on Saturday with a reduced number of teams.

With Colburn dropping out midway through last season and Leyburn not entering a team this year, the league was hit with further bad news when Richmond Buck decided they would fold this season.

The decision was taken after they suffered a 9-3 defeat at the hands of Carperby on Saturday.

Sam Lambert gave Carperby an early need when he smashed home from just outside the area, but Buck were soon level with a long range effort, then took the lead soon after. Carperby soon got level when Scott Lambert's driven cross was diverted past the keeper by the impressive Michael Dent. Carperby were pleased to go into half time in front after summer signing Tim Weatherill nicked the ball ahead of the Buck defence before slotting home to get a deserved debut goal.

The side went through the gears in the second half with Sam Lambert heading past D'Arcy in the Buck goal on 47 minutes before finishing well to get his hat-trick on 51 minutes.

Michael Dent got a second goal with a superb finish on the half volley, before the bullish Lambert got his fourth and fifth with some clinical finishing.

Buck pulled a goal back before Will Tiplady completed the scoring when he raced clear before lobbing the Buck keeper from 25 yards.

In the only other league game, Spennithorne enjoyed a comfortable 5-1 win over Reeth.

The Champions Cup game was also held on Saturday with last season’s league winners Unicorn beating Medals Shield winners 2-1.

League chairman Danny Plumb has suggested players signed on to other clubs, who are not getting a game, could join together to form a new team. Anyone who would like further information or who is looking for a team should contact Danny on 07495 628798.
