Heslerton Young Guns 6 Heslerton Old Boys 5
SUNDAY saw Heslerton host the annual Jonathan Ward memorial game.
Dean Storry’s Heslerton Old Boys took on Andy Stanton's current Heslerton side in a friendly, but still very competitive showcase.
The Heslerton Young Guns took an early lead through some fine inter passing football which saw Dan Blanchard fire them to a two-goal lead. The Old Boys hit back with a brace from Paul Downes before Morgan Kendrew regained the lead for his youthful side. Kendrew then added his second, but goals from Paul Cook and Kristian D'Rosario made it all square at the interval.
The second period saw Young Gun Ben Chafer put the current Heslerton side back in front before Blanchard added a sixth to complete his hat trick. A strike from Luke Dawson for Dean's boys made for an enthralling last 20 minutes but today's Heslerton stars hung on to regain possession of the famous trophy.
All proceeds on the day were in aid of The Jonathan Ward Memorial Fund, set up to finance vital equipment for the club Jonny loved and played for.
