HISTORY was made at Highbury Stadium last Saturday, when Fleetwood Town FC hosted Cheltenham Town FC in League One of the EFL, as both managers were ex-pupils of Bedale High School and playing members of Bedale Juniors and Bedale AFC.

Fleetwood's Simon Grayson played 433 league games for Leeds United, Leicester City, Aston Villa, Blackburn Rovers and Blackpool and has managed Blackpool, Leeds United, Huddersfield, Preston North End, Sunderland, Bradford City and Fleetwood Town, whilst Michael Duff racked up 700 appearances for Cheltenham Town and Burnley, where he was awarded a testimonial game for his 11 years’ service.

Duff also played 24 times for Northern Ireland and managed Burnley U23s before his appointment at the Jonny-Rocks Stadium.

In a topsy-turvy game at Highbury, the visitors took an early lead before Fleetwood equalised, and then took a 2-1 lead before Cheltenham equalised with three minutes remaining.

Fleetwood snatched the winner in the final minute to win the game 3-2. Despite the result, both managers shared the post-match hospitality and reflected on their time at Bedale.
