A FOOD and music festival is set to take place in the town centre this week.

Darlington food and drink festival will return on Friday for a four-day event, while Mish Mash Music Festival takes place on Saturday and Sunday.

Friday will also see the opening of the newly developed street food section of the indoor market, which will feature six stalls selling a range of different cuisine.

Mark Shaul, digital media strategist for Market Asset Management (MAM), which runs the market. said: “Next week is going to be incredible. I’m sure there are going to be a fair few people around.

“It’s going to be like the Pease Pudding market (a monthly street food event) on steroids.”

There will be an array of street food vendors from across the region, serving up dishes from all over the world, from burgers and pizzas, to Armenian and poffertje pancakes.

The event is free to attend and will be hosted across the market square as well as many traders wrapping themselves around the market building. Darlington Market’s regular traders will all still be in their usual position on West Row.

The event kicks off on Friday, offering an outdoor seating area as well as the new indoor street food dining experience within the Darlington Market building, where live music entertainment will debut from around 7.30pm.

On Saturday and Sunday, Mish Mash will be providing the musical entertainment throughout the day, as well as the new Darlington Market stage where cooking demos will be on show throughout the day leading into more live music on the new stage in the evening.

On Monday, August 30, the event will wrap up with a full day of pure food and drink, vendors around the market and across the square ready for folk to enjoy the August Bank Holiday.
