A DARLINGTON pub is appealing for information after a suspect broke into the premises while the owners slept upstairs.

The owners of the Haughton Le Skerne pub took to Facebook to ask for help after the break-in in the early hours of Sunday morning.

A post from the pub said: "We were broken into last night at The Highland Laddie Pub Haughton Green.

"We are a family run business and were upstairs sleeping while this person has broke in downstairs and taken some cash/spirits."

Durham Constabulary confirmed officers were investigating the incident and appealed for anyone with information into the incident to come forward.

A spokeswoman said: "Officers were called to reports of a burglary which occurred on Sunday morning at the Highland Laddie pub on Haughton Green, Darlington.

"The suspect is believed to have broken in at around 12.45am on August 1.

"Once inside, the suspect removed a number of bottles of alcohol before making off.

"Enquires are now ongoing."
