FOR flying fans starved of aerial entertainment, the RAF served up a display of the highest quality.

Those lucky enough to be close RAF Leeming on Thursday afternoon will have witnessed a stunning display of precision flying by the Typhoon Display Team.

The display plane is one of the Air Force’s highly advanced fighter aircraft and is piloted by Flt Lt James Sainty, who was born in North Tyneside.

The team showcase the speed, power and agility of Royal Air Force’s Typhoon aircraft to the general public over summer display season. On this occasion they were guests at RAF Leeming’s families day.

However the wider community were determined to be part of the action with the public viewing area at the base packed with fellow flying enthusiasts, including two who had made a round trip of more than 150 miles. Most local residents would also have had a perfect view of the flying.

The display featured an acrobatic masterclass, and following the show, the pilot landed providing an additional photo opportunity of the brightly-painted aircraft.
