A MUSEUM dedicated to telling the story of life in Richmondshire through the ages will reopen next week with a new look.

Richmondshire Museum, based on Ryders Wynd, Richmond, will open to visitors on Monday. It has spent the Covid-enforced shutdown refreshing and restructuring its displays to give people a new experience.

A spokesperson for the museum said: “The museum took the risk not to furlough but, in a Covid-safe way, to work, little by little, to re-present the stories it tells by restructuring and enlivening many of its displays to allow the visitor to see recent discoveries such as a medieval coin hoard and many items that have been held in store, previously unseen.

“The newly-developed first floor gallery is a journey through time from pre-history to the Second World War. Within the gallery you can learn how the Romans crossed the Pennines, explore how Georgian Richmond folk lived and worked and see how education shaped Richmond history, and then see if you can recognise anyone who served in the Home Guard.

“Within the rest of the galleries you can now in a fully accessible and safe way explore some of our favourites such as the Cruck House, the Fenwick shop and the original BBC film set from All Creatures Great and Small. Not to mention the fact that we now have the pleasure of hosting the Richmond Angling Society trophies.”

The museum opens on Monday at 10.30am and will be open everyday after that from 10.30am to 4.30pm.
