THE “little sibling” of Stockton’s Globe Theatre will see live acts and emerging artists at its launch later today.

The Link next door to the High Street theatre will host singer songwriters Luke Royalty and Jodie Nicholson alongside hip-hop artist Shakk this afternoon.

The event will be streamed live and hosted by Rianne Thompson from BBC Music Introducing.

The Globe is being run by the Ambassador Theatre Group.

Visitors will have to wait until September at the earliest for the 3,000 seater venue to start welcoming acts due to the pandemic.

But its neighbouring 200-capacity venue is opening up – with the hope it will host Teesside artists while offering coffees and cakes in the daytime.

Bosses are also to have close ties with the Tees Music Alliance, NARC. and NE Volume, as well as BBC Music Introducing

Thursday’s launch will be live streamed from the Link to give Teessiders a look inside the venue from afar.

Jo Ager, manager of the Globe and The Link, urged people to tune in.

She added: “These artists are exactly what the venue is all about – “Live at The Link” will provide an intimate gig and performance space for local emerging artists, and will help to develop the talent pipeline, so it seems only right that they are the first to grace the stage.

“We want The Link to become a creative community hub for the high street.

“The café bar offers a great environment for people to meet and enjoy a coffee or try our daytime menu.

“We are working closely with local venues and promoters to make sure this fits in with the vibrant grassroots scene in Stockton and Teesside.”

The Globe project has been more than a decade in the making with a final bill of more than £30m due before the end of the next decade.

Its restoration was marked by spiralling costs – and council officials are relying on the project bringing an extra 200,000 visitors to the town centre every year.

The live launch will be streamed at 5.30pm on the Stockton Globe website: www.stocktonglobe.co.uk or via its Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/thelink
