A CHARITY has received an emergency grant from a local council so it can carry on providing counselling to women who fall victim to sexual violence.

EVA Women’s Aid was first established in Redcar and Cleveland back in 1987 to support women and children fleeing domestic abuse.

It has received a one-off £10,000 payment from Redcar and Cleveland Council so its specialist sexual violence counselling service can continue in 2021/22.

The charity has seen increased demand because of the Covid-19 outbreak and feared having to withdraw a significant part of the counselling support if additional funding was not secured.

The money is from a fund allocated to local councils by the Government which is intended to support local public health during the pandemic.

A council delegated decision report said it would “deliver social value by ensuring EVA continues to provide a special sexual violence counselling service to victims and their families.”
