A FIRE crew from Malton helped rescued three people in the early hours of this morning after a boat starting taking on water.

Crews from Acomb, York, Selby and Malton were called out to Bishopthorpe Bridge in York at 3am on Saturday.

North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service helped the three people off the boat and took them to safety.

Firefighters took the group to their second boat while other crew members secured the boat that was taking on water using a 30m line.

A spokesperson for York Rescue Boat said: "All persons are safe and accounted for and vessel secured."
