BOLTON Castle, one of the best preserved medieval castles in the country, has had a leading role in a new historical drama.

Several scenes within the forthcoming Fable Pictures, Channel 5 and Sony Pictures Television three-part psychological thriller, Anne Boleyn, were filmed at the castle, near Leyburn.

Bolton Castle can be seen within many of scenes throughout the series, and acts as the interior location for Greenwich Palace, and as the location for Anne Boleyn’s execution at the Tower of London.

Shot in Yorkshire last year the drama will explore the final months of Anne Boleyn’s life from her perspective, as she struggles to secure a future for her daughter and to challenge the powerful patriarchy closing in around her.

Jodie Turner-Smith stars as Henry VIII’s infamous second wife, Anne Boleyn. The ensemble cast includes Yorkshire born actor Mark Stanley, as Henry VIII, and Lola Petticrew as Anne’s love rival, Jane Seymour. BAFTA-nominated Paapa Essiedu is Anne’s brother.
