A MOTHER of two is battling through the challenges of a traditional British spring to raise money for the Friends of the Friarage.

Helen Anderson, 32, is running seven km a day in May. Come rain or shine Helen who has two daughters three year old Lily and one year old Poppy is determined to battle on running the equivalent of five marathons in a month.

Helen said: "After starting running again following the birth of my second daughter last April I really wanted to set myself a challenge that would not only push my limits, but allow me to give something back to the community after what has been such a challenging year for everyone.

"The Friarage hospital is really important to me, not only have all the staff there done an unbelievable job dealing with the pandemic, but they play a crucial role in caring for our community. I was lucky enough to have both of my girls at the Friarage in addition to various treatments over the years, they've provided care for many of my family members and friends providing the highest level of service along the way.

"The 'Friends of the Friarage' charity proactively support the best possible health care for every patient within the Friarage Hospital and the Health Centres of Hambleton and Richmondshire. Fundraising activities such as this help to purchase state of the art medical equipment, update the hospital environment and support the development of innovative services.

"One of the hardest parts is fitting runs in around a full time job and family time with my kids and husband, but there has been so much support. The weather has also been an additional challenge, I wasn't anticipating wind, rain and hailstones in May but that's the British weather for you."

Helen is aiming to raise £1,000 and already has over £800. www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/7kadayinmay
