A NORTH Yorkshire town is in line for a big clean up as volunteers armed with mops, brushes and litter pickers leap into action in preparation for the summer.

Bedale Litter Busters are organising the event on Sunday, May 16.

They are asking volunteers to come along and help them make the town spick and span as part of a spring clean.

As well as picking litter they're also planting planters, cleaning signs and weeding the high street.

The group is meeting at House and Home in Bedale High Street at 9am, and after the clean up they're meeting in the park at 11am to hand out awards for the people who have gone out of their way over the past year and through lockdown to keep the town tidy.

A spokesperson said: "Over lockdown, there have been a lot of people including school children taking part. For their hard work local councillors are presenting awards in the park afterwards."
