A DRUG driver who drove on the wrong side of the road killing a father-of-four in a head-on collision has been jailed for three-and-a-half years.

George Thompson, 36, also caused serious injuries to the passengers in his car an adult and three children as he drove along the A6055 at Leeming Bar after leaving McDonald's. in September 2019. After failing to pull in he crashed into a car driven by Richard Blain, 37,a military serviceman from Thirsk and father of four who suffered serious injuries and died later in hospital.

Thompson, from Doncaster, admitted causing death by careless driving while being over the limit for illegal drugs, cannabis.

Mr Blain’s family said he was a wonderful daddy, loving husband and treasured son who will be deeply missed.
