A PLAQUE and defibrillator have been installed at Northallerton Auction Mart in memory of market chairman Alan Watson, who died suddenly in January.

Donations totalling almost £1,500 came in from many people connected with the mart to buy the potentially life-saving defibrillator after a fundraiser was launched following Mr Watson’s death.

The 66-year-old, who farmed at Snilesworth, near Osmotherley, was also a director of Northallerton Auction Mart.

He was described as a “remarkable man” and “well-respected farmer” in the many tributes paid after his death on January 27.

Northallerton Mart company secretary and director Brian Weighell thanked all those who donated towards the defibrillator, and stressed it was for the whole community, and not just for anyone in need while at the mart.

Describing the amount raised as “very generous”, Mr Weighell added: “Alan always had time for everyone, no matter who they were. It was such a shock to lose him.

“His funeral would have been packed out in other times, but everyone showed their respect by lining the moor road on his way to the church.”
