A weekly round-up of selected public notices

A RESTAURANT in Richmond Market Place would be able to stay open until 1am under new plans submitted to the district council.

Soran Vari has applied to vary the planning conditions imposed when a previous application was granted by Richmondshire District Council two years ago for change of use of 30 Market Place from a shop to an Italian restaurant.

That application was on the basis the premises would close at 10pm but new documents submitted to the council state: "The applicant considers this to be too onerous because the restaurant would need to stop serving well before that time to allow customers to finish eating and for staff to clear away and close up.

"Limiting the opening hours will put the business at a disadvantage against other competing businesses in the town. Given the current problems faced by the hospitality industry and the need to inject life into town centres due to the decline in retailing it is important that businesses such as this are given every encouragement to succeed."

Richmond Civic Society has objected saying the opening hours should be the same as other nearby restaurants "to avoid late night noise in the Market Place".
