MAIN roads through Northallerton will be closed off during evenings next week while major resurfacing work is carried out as part of redevelopment in the town centre.

North Yorkshire county council's highways team is undertaking the essential work on East Road and Crosby Road from Monday March 15 for five days between 6pm and 11pm.

The work is being done as part of Hambleton District Council’s ‘Connections Project’ which is joining Northallerton High Street to the new Treadmills scheme on the former prison site. The project is being partly paid for by the York and North Yorkshire Local Enterprise Partnership.

Hambleton district and North Yorkshire county councillor Caroline Dickinson, said: "This resurfacing work will go a great length in ensuring these two busy roads in Northallerton are fit for the increasing traffic demands. The scheme is part of an extensive programme of improvements in the town.

"Resurfacing is weather dependant so we will keep the public updated of any changes to the schedule. The work is being carried out on a night to alleviate disruption for residents and businesses as much as possible.

"I would like to thank the public in advance for their patience and cooperation during this essential scheme."

Vehicles will be restricted as well as on-street parking. Residents are being asked to find alternative places to park although people needing access will be helped.
