THE newitts.com Beckett Football League has decided to end the current league and cup season due to the coronavirus pandemic.

After the government said that grassroots football can return from March 29, league officials contacted all clubs giving various options on how to finish the current season, but no clear indication of an outcome was forthcoming, and the league management committee has now voted in favour of declaring the season over as null and void.

Several teams in the league have already arranged friendly games in April. On April 3, Heslerton will entertain Kirkdale United, and the following Saturday, April 10, Heslerton will play Rosedale.

The league still has teams playing in the East Riding CFA cup competitions, which has still to make a decision as to whether or not they will carry on.

Officials are now looking to the 2021-22 season, and will now accept any application for new teams. The league currently has 22 member teams in its two divisions.

Any team interested in joining is asked to contact either of the league secretaries, Andy Rouph on 07854 416379 or Andy Paine on 07368 379245, or league chairman Keith Sales on 01751 473348 for further information.
