RICHMOND GOLF CLUB has appointed a club champion after successfully applying to become a signatory of the R&A's Women in Golf Charter.

Barbara Gregory, past lady captain and member of the board of directors, has taken on the role.

She said: “There are less than 50 golf clubs in England that have achieved this tremendous accolade and we have great plans to encourage more women and girls to come and play golf at Richmond.

"We are working closely with two-time European Tour winner, Graeme Storm through his Golf Academy based here at Richmond Golf Club, to attract significant interest in our women-in-golf programme.”

The golf club is closed during the current lockdown, but has events planned as part of the programme for when it reopens, including a taster day, introductory lessons, mentoring and fun golf for beginners with other female members. In addition, there is an extensive social programme scheduled for the coming year, including special celebrations to commemorate the 950th anniversary of Richmond Castle.

Graeme Storm added: “It is a great achievement for Richmond Golf Club to sign up to the Women in Golf Charter. We at the Graeme Storm Golf Academy look forward to welcoming girls and ladies of all ages and abilities to Richmond in the near future.”
