NORTHALLERTON CAMERA CLUB’S Zoom meeting on Monday, February 1, was very topical, given the mixed weather of late, as it was on the subject of "Seasons".

There was a plethora of weather-related images to feast the eye on and judge Alan Porrett had the onerous task of sifting through all 70 of them to find the best.

The standard was so high that he judged 13 images to be outstanding, giving joint third place to Dave Coates for his entries entitled The Twisleton Erratic and (a lovely mixture of golden daffodils and dark clouds) – Spring Storm Light, St. Mary’s. There was also a one-man tie for second with Chris Morton’s hauntingly atmospheric Autumn Gold and shiver – inducing Lakeland Pass receiving the honours.

Advanced class member John Webster took first place with the beautiful Snowy Owl Hunting – very well named as the owl was also flying through thick snow.

First in the club class, and also the recipient of a highly commended, was Cathy Earle’s lovely busy bee – Enjoying the Summer Nectar, whilst Richard Collier’s glorious Richmond scene – From Maison Dieu – was top of the intermediate class.

There were another six highly commended, two of which went to Stephen Byard with Black Rock Cottage – Winter and Roseberry Topping – Late Summer, both startlingly beautiful.

The other four, any of which would have been a winner in any other competition, were Sheila Coates with Ashness Bridge in Autumn; Paul Newey’s Ribblehead Station; Eric Hall with Spring Sheep and Lambs and finally Trevor Thurlow’s Summer Sky.

The members certainly pulled out all the stops and, whilst not everyone could not walk away with honours, they can all give themselves a pat on the back for providing an evening of excellent photography.
