Sixteen sheep died after falling through ice on a frozen pond.
Fire crews were called at 5.30pm last night after the sheep wandered onto the frozen pond near Burton Leonard, causing the ice to crack.
Firefighters used two inflateable walkways and a raft as they fought to rescue the sheep.
"Unfortunately, of the 19 sheep rescued, 16 were dead," North Yorshire Fire and Rescue reported.
