Police searching for missing teenager Ahmed Mukhtar have sadly found a body.

Ahmed, 17 was reported missing last weekend, and was last seen near the Centre of Life, Newcastle at about 2.40am on Friday.

An investigation was launched and officers were keen to trace three witnesses in a bid to try and locate him. However, police sadly found a body yesterday.

While formal identification is yet to take place, police believe the body is that of Ahmed Mukhtar. His family have been notified and are being supported by specialist officers at this time.

Detective Chief Inspector Angela Hufton, of Northumbria Police said: “This is an extremely tragic outcome and our thoughts are with Ahmed’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.

“I’d like to thank everyone who helped us in our search, shared our appeal and came forward with information to assist with the investigation.”

Police do not believe there to be any third party involvement and once formal identification has been completed a report will be prepared for the coroner.
