YARM SCHOOL’S student Community Action Group organised a collection this month to support a charity working to provide hygiene products to those without access.

The group established drop-off points throughout the senior school for pupils to donate toiletries for The Hygiene Bank. Within two weeks, the pupils collected eight large bin bags of donations, including soap, toothpaste, shaving foam, laundry detergent, deodorant , nappies and feminine hygiene products

Huw Williams, Yarm School headmaster, said: “This project was all about making a difference to the wider community. Feeling clean should not be a luxury for anyone in our society. We are grateful to our school community for the generous donations made.

“Our Community Action Group is an optional activity which runs as part of our wider activities programme. The group this year involves our Sixth Form students and is run by English teacher, Ms Blakemore, but the whole school contributes to the group’s initiatives. So far they have been involved in a wide range of projects such as numerous litter picks, coordinating book collections for local schools, listening to younger children read in a local school, collecting for Billingham Food Bank and collecting clothes for Zoe’s Place."
