A DARLINGTON pub has opened a takeaway counter in order to keep serving customers through lockdown restrictions.

The Hole in the Wall in Darlington has opened the 'Hole in the Door', a new takeaway counter set to serve customers breakfast, brunch and lunch from the pub hatch.

Orders are placed through their Facebook page and breakfast is served from 9am until 11.45 am., whereas lunch will be from noon until 3pm.

In addition to the collection service the pub also offers the collection menu for delivery.

Dave Johnson, manager said: “In the face of ever-changing rules and guidance we wanted to be proactive.

“We decided to adapt to the circumstances and be creative with it, and that feeling of determination became the idea of ‘Hole in the Door'.

“The ‘Hole in the Door’ allows us to still serve our customers and lets us see them and keep in touch.

“We’ve received some great feedback from our takeaways and deliveries which makes us feel better about not being able to serve our locals exactly the way we would like.

“We’re staying positive and the staff have been really great, and we recently staged a DJ set for them while they were working hard to get our customers their food and drink orders.

“It’s all about keeping that motivation going until we can have everyone back in December and we can’t wait to see everyone again.”
