A LANDMARK former hotel badly damaged in a fire six years ago is back on the market.

The Grade II listed Catterick Bridge Hotel, opposite Catterick racecourse, parts of which date back to the 17th Century, was gutted in a fire in February 2014 whilst it was being renovated.

Six fire crews from Bedale, Colburn and Richmond were involved in battling to bring the the blaze under control but it was extensively damaged.

It is understood the building was unoccupied at the time and no one was injured. Since then the 15 bedroom pub, restaurant and hotel, has remained a burnt out shell and has been offered for sale several times.

Last week it was due to be sold online by Strettons Auctions, based in London, with a guide price of between £250,000 to £275,000 but did not sell. It had previously been advertised in an auction in April with a guide price of £300,000.

The agents declined to comment but there is a note on the latest sale advert saying it is available. They say: "It is offered vacant for repair, having suffered some fire damage, and with development potential."

The site is in a prominent position on the edge of Catterick Garrison on the A6136, Leeming to Catterick road and covers an area of around 2.15 acres.

The hotel, which has had 18th, 19th and 20th century additions was formerly known as the George and Dragon Inn.

It was also used as a private house in the late 1700s to early 1800s.
