ONE of the region’s town mayors is seriously unwell in hospital after contracting coronavirus.

Mayor of Stockton-on-Tees, Councillor Mohammed Javed, is in the intensive care unit at the University Hospital of North Tees, with severe Covid-19 symptoms.

A spokesman for Stockton Borough Council said: “We are sending our best wishes to the Mayor of Stockton-on-Tees, Cllr Mohammed Javed, and his family, as he is in the intensive care unit at the University Hospital of North Tees after contracting coronavirus.

“His family ask that everyone hold Cllr Javed in their thoughts.”
