A PARK in Darlington has received a new swing set and container to store maintenance equipment in thanks to a National Lottery grant.

Fryer's Field Recreation Ground received £9,999 lottery grant and has spent £5,000 of it installing a new set of swings and a container to store the grounds maintenance equipment in.

There are also plans in place for some improved goal posts and a ride-on lawn mower to be purchased with the remainder of the money.

John Thompson, a Darlington resident who looks after the park, said: "We are gradually doing a little bit more for the area over time.

"The coronavirus hasn't helped because it is has restricted the work days we are able to have and the swings have definitely brought in more children to the play area. It's quite crowded now on an evening.

"Me and my wife went out first thing in the morning to prepare the area for the container coming in.

"Halls Construction very graciously agreed to bring the container in for us. We cannot thank them enough."
