PUPILS at an Accrington high school have sent pupils home today after announcing a positive case of coronavirus.

Officials from the Hollins School in Accrington confirmed the news on Monday morning.

It said: "Unfortunately we have to close school to all Year 11 today and they are being sent home. Once we have further instructions from Public Health England we will be back in touch about return dates. Students should check on Microsoft Teams for their work today and should self-isolate until we supply further guidance. Thank you for your continued support."

Last night they also posted: "We are sad to inform you that a student in Year 11 has had a positive test result for covid 19 this weekend.

"Following consulation with Public Health England we can share that the vast majority of our Year 11 are able to safely attend school tomorrow.

"Individuals who must self-isolate have been contacted directly and will return to school on 30/9/20. We would like to thank our parents for their continued support."

It comes after last week the Lancashire Telegraph reported about a positive test in Year 10.
