A ROTARY club is raising money to rebuild a school in Kenya after a violent storm demolished the building's roof.

Darlington Rotary are appealing for donations after Vingujini School, Msambweni in Kenya lost their roof last week during a storm.

The destruction has left 150 children without a learning space.

For the past 11 years the club as supported the school as part of its international programme, providing building materials, books, desks and blackboards.

Rotarian Peter Phillips, who first made contact with the people in Msambweni 24 years ago, said: "As if the constraints and dangers of Covid-19 were not enough a storm and high winds have destroyed the school roof.

"No one was injured but the community is faced with a cost of £9,000, over and above their local labour, to salvage and repair the damage."

Donations can be made to Darlington Rotary Club’s Charity Account.
