SEVERAL fire crews have been called out to tackle a blaze in Carnforth that started within a train.

At 8:37am, Carnforth Fire Station received reports of a train carriage on fire.

On arrival, firefighters discovered a single carriage interior that was 'well alight' and heavily smoke-logged.

Carnforth Fire Station has confirmed that all rail personnel onboard were accounted for.

The crew from Carnforth Station, along with another from Silverdale Fire Station, dealt with the fire in its initial stages.

They were later joined by Blackpool Fire (being the nearest appliance available at the time) and an appliance from Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service.

Crews required four breathing apparatuses, two hose reels and a ventilation unit in order to extinguish the fire.

They reportedly remained at the scene for 'several hours whilst we dampened down'.
