A GROUP of businesspeople from the North-East have signed up to tackle a 'monster challenge' in the Lake District with a Darlington adventure company to raise money for the NHS.

Darlington-based adventure experience company Evolution Tribe is taking twelve businessmen and women on an extreme trek to the top of the Lakes District to raise £10,000 for the NHS.

The corporate event specialists is asking local businesses to support their fundraising efforts by donating supplies and equipment.

Each member of the ‘Lakes Monster Challenge’ team will raise at least £250, with all donations going to the South Durham and Darlington NHS Trust charity.

The 15-hour event, set to take place on August 22, will see the team tackle mountains and peaks, as well as an aerial assault courses.

Tom Cockerill, director of Evolution Tribe, said: “It’s easy to stand outside at 8pm on a Thursday night and clap for our frontline staff.

"But we wanted to do more, we wanted to give something back, because if ever there was a time to show our appreciation, it’s now.”

Charity manager at County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, Pat Chambers, said: “We are delighted that participants of this inaugural Lakes Monster Challenge have chosen to support their local NHS Charity.

The team is now appealing for help with the likes of catering, energy drinks and diesel for the event bus.

Fellow director of Evolution Tribe John Beamson said: “With all proceeds going to the NHS, we want to make sure costs are at an absolute minimum.

"That is why we are reaching out to businesses and people to give generously, because we’d love as many as possible to be a part of this amazing event and help us to give something back."
