A BOOK of condolence has been opened to remember victims of the coronavirus.

The book is to enable people in Middlesbrough to pay tribute to those who have died in the pandemic.

The latest figures show the town has recorded 950 confirmed cases of Coronavirus, while more than 200 deaths have been recorded at James Cook University Hospital.

Middlesbrough Mayor Andy Preston said: "The Covid-19 has been a tragic and horrendous time of sacrifice for all and deep loss for those personally affected.

"While we are now working to restart the town and make sure the effects of this dreadful, dreadful virus are battled, we must not forget that so many people have been taken from us. Those people should be celebrated and remembered - not as a victim of the coronavirus but as loved and important members of our community. Their memories should be shared and their stories told."
