YOUNG cadets are roaming police headquarters as dinosaurs this month to raise awareness about suicide prevention.

The 13 Middlesbrough police cadets are planning to complete a marathon each day in July to raise money for the Samaritans.

They will be documenting their efforts on social media sites Facebook, Twitter and Tik Tok and will be using different movie themes – including Jurassic Park – to entertain their followers.

James McLeary, who leads the Middlesbrough cadets, said: “There has been a lot of thought and planning on how they are going to complete this challenge, working as a team.

“We’ve chosen 13 cadets to take part as a reminder that sadly 13 people lose their lives because of suicide every day.

“We’ve already raised more than £600 for the Samaritans to help their life-saving work but we’d welcome any support.”

Chief Constable Richard Lewis, who made Teesside Samaritans his nominated charity in July 2019, said: I’m very proud of the commitment of our police cadets. These young people volunteer their time to benefit their local community."

“I’m impressed by their efforts to raise awareness and support a very worthwhile cause. I wish them the best of luck in their challenge.”
