AT the start of the new rotary year on July 1, Duncan Davison will hand over to Chris Johnson as president of the Rotary Club of Northallerton.

Duncan has achieved several worthy goals during his year in office, but sadly due to the coronavirus lockdown has finished his term with virtual weekly meetings using computer conferencing, although charitable work has continued.

Chris has been married to his former social worker and accomplished linguist wife Christine for just over 50 years, and they have two married sons and four grandchildren.

Chris spent the first half of his working career in ICI petrochemicals, with varied roles in research and development, sales and marketing, at Billingham, Birmingham and Wilton.

He then bought the Thirsk Garden centre, which he and Christine ran from 1985 to 2000. In recent years they have bought and renovated a second home in Burgundy, France, where they spend some time during the year. Chris enjoys bridge, walking and travel.

He is keen to continue the club’s drive to be dementia-friendly, and to be inclusive for all types of new members with enthusiasm for service in the community.
