A GRANT from a local authority has helped to brighten-up a Lower Wensleydale village in these rather gloomy times.
Constable Burton Support Group has been given a grant of £500 through Richmondshire District Council’s coronavirus grant scheme 2020.
The majority of the money has been spent on bedding plants with pots of picturesque blossoms displayed throughout the village. In addition, more than 50 households have been supplied with individual plants to create their own floral spectacle.
The plants were sourced through local businesses, many with a red, white and blue theme in time for VE Day. These were placed at the front of the Reading Room.
Village spokesman George Tomlin MBE said: “The effect has been an instant lifting of morale within the village, bringing us closer together as a community whilst maintaining social distancing. We will also have to wait a little while for the full effect as the plants grow and bloom.
“Many thanks go to Richmondshire District Council and to the village support group, the members of which continue to work in support of our community throughout all of these trying weeks.”
