TWO school former friends have launched an eco-friendly candle business.

Yorkshire Dales business woman Hannah Russell is a well-known for her books chronicling the adventures of Little Alf, her miniature Shetland Pony. She also runs several other business including a clothing range and a her own shop in Leyburn. Her latest venture is ‘Happi candle’ which is co-founded with business partner Ben Bartlett from Leyburn.

The pair who both attended Wensleydale School came up with the idea for a new business earlier this year. As they both love candles, they wanted to create something unique.Their products are handmade in Yorkshire with 100 per cent natural ingredients and also vegan-friendly and cruelty-free. The candles are also produced with eco wicks to ensure a slow burn time.

Originally, the business was to be launched in early April but due to coronavirus, they have adapted the launch via an online website and social media.

Ms Russell said: “Although, I’ve had to close my shop as have many business across the world, it’s a great time to be looking online.

“So far it’s been a success with some nice reviews coming in. A lot of people are buying products online at the moment and sending them to friends and family to show they are thinking of them, we wanted to offer the same structure with Happi candle.”

Currently they offer three products: juicy juicy orange, fresh linen and fresh lavender. They have plans to expand into new ranges and fragrances for the brand later this year.

Mr Bartlett said: “Happi candle is a positive project and we have lots planned in the future to build a bigger business.”
