KIRKLEATHAM Museum has launched a series of weekly online 'live' talks to replace the normal 'Tuesday Talks' that met monthly before the current restrictions were introduced.

The talks have been uprated to weekly events, still at the regular time of 2pm on Tuesday afternoons. The talks are feature well-known speakers and cover a range of local topics.

On Tuesday, May 12, retired museum curator, Phil Philo, talks about the boyhood years of James Cook. The talks are delivered free via Zoom and the weekly login details are available on the Facebook page of Kirkleatham Museum & Grounds and other local Facebook pages.

Other talks lined up for the next few weeks include, Arthur and Adeline, a true story of a First World War hero who was blinded on the Western Front and of Adeline, the love of his life; The Fearless Flyers of Marske tells the story of the pioneering aviators based at Marske-by-the-sea in the First World War; The River Tees and its Early Ports examines how the river and its ports evolved to meet changing demands; and Gertrude Bell, a Woman in a Man's World describes the achievements of Redcar's most famous daughter, often described as a linguist, archaeologist, diplomat and friend of the Arabs.

The talks continue weekly throughout May and then become fortnightly in June and July in anticipation of the hoped-for relaxation of current restrictions.
