WHETHER it's building a domino wall to paper aeroplanes or enjoying a home workout, a town's leisure park is ensuring families stay entertained during social distancing with 'isolation hacks'.

Darlington's leisure park DL1, a site with restaurants, a cinema and even a kids club, is closed due to coronavirus pandemic, but that is not stopping the organisation from providing activities for the whole family.

On its website, DL1 has launched a new section dedicated to isolation inspiration, which include children-friendly ideas like building a fort, watching a favourite film and having a board game day, as well as zero-equipment workouts, making a standing desk and do-it-yourself planting.

A spokesperson for DL1 said: “As soon as the Covid-19 Lockdown was put in place the tenants at DL1 were left with no choice but to temporarily close their doors.

"This meant that normal communication was not possible or indeed appropriate, so the ‘isolation hacks’ have been created and published with the hope that they may help customers of DL1 during this very difficult time.

"We wanted to maintain a level of interaction with our loyal customers from Darlington and further afield.

"We look forward to welcoming people back once we are able to open the doors again. In the meantime we urge you all to listen to the government advice and stay safe.”

Here are some of The Northern Echo's favourite DL1 isolation hacks.

n For parents now home schooling, many of these hacks can be educational. With just a clean bottle, some water, vegetable oil, fizzing tablets and food colouring, children can make a lava lamp with this scientific experiment.

Sourced from the Science is Fun website, parents can be scientists for the day too and explain how oil and water splits due to a difference in density, while food colouring is the same as water so it moves through the oil and mixes with water, creating a lava-like pattern.

n Linking off to a video to 38 life hacks, DL1 wrote: "While we're all at home it might be useful to learn some new life hacks for easier and more interesting living! Do you have a secret but surprisingly useful hack to share?"

In this video, viewers will see how an empty crisp tube can be repurposed to avoid mess in cutting watermelon, alongside easy ways to peel an egg.

n While in unprecedented times, living through history, another fitting suggestion from DH1 is to make a time capsule and "treat your future self", the website says.

This can take as long or as little time as a family may have. Use and decorate an old box, then fill it with memories and notes about the past, present or future.

Other suggestions include DIY facemasks and bedroom declutter hacks, with the organisation urging people to be resourceful.
