A VILLAGE store which was established more than 115 years ago has gone on sale.

Property business adviser, Christie & Co, has brought to market Central Stores Convenience Store, in Sherburn, Malton.Central Stores, on the main street of the village, is the hub of the community. Included in the sale is a three-bedroom house with a garden.

Current owner Ms Luke said: “This business was ideal for me when I bought it. It is the hub to over 10 miles of surrounding villages who have no supermarket for 11 miles.

"There is a doctor’s surgery, fish and chip shop, post office and primary school which is 100 metres from the shop.

"This is a very profitable business for someone who wants to work full time or employ staff, some of which have been here for 13 years and are very reliable.

"There is a thriving community spirit here, new houses having been built and another 72 having passed planning.”

Andy Birnie, director at Christie & Co, said: “Businesses like these are sought after from a wide variety of buyers as they are quite profitable and provide an enjoyable job and income, as well as the satisfaction of working for themselves.

"During times of uncertainty, these businesses don’t get as affected as those on the high street as they sell essential items which are needed regardless of the economy.

"A new owner may wish to diversify by introducing new products and services while retaining the core retail sales mix. The house also provides a lovely home and there is a great garden to the rear which is quite private and has two good outhouses.”
