A SUPERMARKET has delivered crates of food to a charity to help out as it struggles to get the supplies it needs.

The essential supplies from Morrison's, in Darlington's North Road, will be handed out to the public by the food bank at King's Church.

It has agreed the donations will continue to at least July.

Morrison's community champion Melanie Reid, who handed over the food to King's Church, said: "We have a big campaign going to help local food banks and charities get the food they so desperately need.

"We are playing our part as a British food maker. Our manufacturing sites are working for longer to make more.

"This will help our stores give £10 million worth of food to local food banks and charities by the end of July.

"We also have food donation stations set up in store for our customers to donate too if they so wish to do so."

She added: "I feel some people may need reassurance that food is available to those in need."

Some food banks have reported that they are struggling as a result of the coronavirus, which has had an impact on the availability of certain essential food items in shops.
