THE Richmondshire Concerts don't often feature vocalists, so it will be a special occasion when the Carice Singers come to Richmond, for a concert of songs by Howells, Bax, Ireland, Janacek, Elgar, Berg, Ross Edwards, Grieg and Finzi.

Named after Edward Elgar's daughter, the choir of young professional singers is famed for its imaginative approach to a wide spectrum of choral music.

For one of the singers, Sophie Overin, this will be a return visit to Richmond. Seven years ago, as a pupil at Richmond School, she played the role of Dorothy in the school's production of The Wizard of Oz, and also sang in St Mary's choir.

The concert is at Richmond's Influence Church at 7.30pm on Wednesday, March 18. Full details and tickets (£16 or £1 for full-time students) from Richmondshire Concerts (www.rsconcerts.org) or Castle Hill Bookshop, Richmond. Tickets will also be sold at the door.
