ESSENTIAL resurfacing will begin on a major Yorkshire Dales road this month.

Main Street/ A684 in West Witton, near Leyburn, will be closed between 9am until 3.30pm Monday to Friday from Monday, March 16.

Drivers are asked to move their vehicles before 8am, and to familiarise themselves with the extensive diversion route and to plan extra time for their journeys.

During the works, vehicle access to properties will be restricted and parking will not be permitted but on-site contractors will assist wherever possible.

Arrangements to leave vehicles in alternative locations should be made by residents affected by the works.

“There have been requests from the public for resurfacing work to be carried out in West Witton so we are pleased to be able to deliver,” said County Councillor Karin Sedgwick, member for Middle Dales. “We have been carrying out similar projects in Richmondshire to ensure the roads are the best they can be for drivers.”

County Councillor Don Mackenzie, Executive Member for Highways, added: “Although the work will inevitably cause some disruption we are sure the travelling public will appreciate the long-term benefits.

“I would like to remind drivers to follow the diversions in place and make arrangements to leave their vehicles in alternative locations.”
