AFTER appealing for used stamps in the D&S Times, readers have given an overwhelming response.

For more than 20 years Sue Thompson, of Harmby near Leyburn, has been collecting used stamps for the Royal National Institute of Blind ( RNIB).

Prior to Christmas she thought that her collection point in the Wobbly Dog in Leyburn could do with some publicity and arranged an entry in the Town and Village listings.

Since then, the D&S Times readers have more than responded to the request, with the jar in the shop full to overflowing every few days.

The shop’s owner Anne Waites keeps having to ring Mrs Thompson collect them.

Mrs Thompson said: “I am so pleased with the response as I hate to waste things. I am sure the RNIB have benefited from everyone’s kindness.”

Any stamps, British or foreign can be left at the collection point in the Wobbly Dog Leyburn.

Mrs Thompson asks that a border of at least an inch should be left round the stamps; alternatively to deposit the whole envelope. She then trims them properly and posts them onwards at her own expense.
