Eaglescliffe actor loses underwear in performance of Aladdin

Ben Roberts of Eaglescliffe near Stockton had been performing at the Garden Rooms in Leyburn, North Yorkshire, when his underwear was pulled down on stage.

In the scene, Danny Posthill playing Aladdin's brother was scripted to pull down the 18-year-old's trousers revealing a sporty pair of Christmas underpants.

But accidentally taking those with him, the slip-up prompted screams from the audience while the lighting technician worked to dim the stage.

Afterwards Mr Roberts, who had played role of policeman, said: "I didn’t realise at first but it suddenly felt a bit cold and I realised I had revealed all, but these things happen.”

His mother Andrea, the show's wardrobe mistress was "less than impressed" but said she managed to see the funny side of it all, later.

Apologising for the mishap but paying tribute, Danny Posthill said: "That’s the funniest thing I have ever seen happen on stage in my career as a stand –up or in pantomime.

"He dealt with it brilliantly carrying on with the scene as though nothing had happened.”

"The show carried on and at the finale, who got the loudest applause and cheers.

"Policeman, Ben of course – he even made a joke of it covering the front his trousers."

Mr Posthill said his colleague was in demand as much 'other' actors for selfies and photo opportunities after show.
