SEVERAL legal firms are offering to completely waive their usual fees for those creating their Last Will and Testament, next month.

Some solicitors in Northallerton, Leyburn, Catterick, and Darlington, are scrapping the fees, which range anywhere between £90 and £300 including VAT, all in aid of a special scheme launched by Herriot Hospice Homecare.

Instead, those who take advantage of the complimentary legal help will be encouraged to donate to the cause.

Chief Executive of Herriot Hospice Homecare, Tony Collins, said: “Having a will professionally made with a solicitor helps ensure that the people and things you care about are looked after, whatever the future holds.”

“We are keen to give local people the opportunity to make their will as part of an initiative which is simple, straightforward and offers peace of mind.

“What’s more, thanks to the local solicitors waiving their fees as part of Make a Will Month, all the donations you make will go straight to work helping us provide our vital services.”

Herriot Hospice Homecare claims it costs around £1m each year to continue offering support, without charge, to people living with terminal illness and families going through bereavement.

Those wishing to create their Will are being urged to make their appointment, which will be allocated on a first come, first served basis through Herriot Hospice Homecare.

At the appointment they will be assisted with the creation of a basic or mirror Will. The hospice’s ‘Make a Will Month’ will take place at selected solicitors throughout October, with all donations going to the cause.

Earlier this week it was revealed that Hambleton District Council had successfully chosen Herriot Hospice Homecare to be ‘gifted’ the former Lambert Hospital in Thirsk.

A decision ratified by councillors at a council meeting confirmed it would be turned into a Herriot Hospice site.
