RICHMOND station is to host to an unusual exhibition of needlework, inspired by tattoos.

Artist Julie Wilkerson explains: “My love of needlework began as a very young girl. My love of tattooing began aged 18, when I had my very first tattoo. The two came together when, in 2017, I did my first piece of textile work, inspired by my daughters tattooed sleeve.”

Then began her desire to marry her two passions – tattoos and needlework, one inspiring the other.

“The culmination is now this, my first solo exhibition, showing that one art form with a needle can inspire and bring about another art form, also done with a needle. And so here is... Tattoos in Thread."

Gallery co-ordinator at The Station, Jenny Raspbeary, said: "This is a unique opportunity to see a completely different medium expressing tattoos at The Station. Julie Wilkerson is an artist to be in ‘the watch’ list for the future."

Julie Wilkerson, Tattoos in Thread, Richmond Station, runs from Saturday, September 7, until Wednesday, September 18. An exclusive preview event is being held on the evening of Friday, September 6, and Julie will be at The Station on Sunday and Saturday, September 14, from 11am to 2pm to chat about her work.
