THIEVES who broke into a home in Lanchester are thought to have taken cash from an upstairs office.

The suspected burglary happened in Ashdown Grove on Friday, August 9.

Police say a teenage boy, who was looking after his younger brother, was at home at the time but did not notice the break-in.

When the homeowners returned at about 9pm they discovered the rear patio doors had been forced open and money had been taken from an upstairs office.

DC Norman Foster, who is leading the investigation, said: “The couple’s teenage son was looking after his younger brother at the time which makes this targeted burglary concerning.

“Thankfully, the boys were in a separate part of the house at the time and oblivious to what was taking place.

“We are doing everything we can to find the burglars but if you have any information or CCTV, please get in touch so we can bring these criminals to justice.”

The property is located close to Lanchester Cricket Club.

If you have any information contact DC Foster by calling 0191-3752411 or Crimestoppers on 0800-555111 quoting crime reference number 395 or August 9.
