A LOCAL authority has sent reminders to around 12,000 residents who failed to reply to keep their Electoral Register up-to-date.

Hambleton District Council said Household Enquiry Forms, which confirms who lives at the address and whether they appear on the open register, were sent to all homes earlier this year.

But following the deadline for the initial response passing last week, a further reminder would now be sent to the remaining 12,000 residents who had not responded.

The local authority said those missing the reminder deadline on September 16 would be visited by an electoral canvasser to collect the information, required by law.

Dr Justin Ives, electoral registration officer at Hambleton District Council, said: "It is important that residents respond as soon as possible, so we have the right details on the electoral register for every address in Hambleton.

β€œAn election can be called at anytime in the year so it is important for residents to make sure they can vote.”
