A SHOPPING centre has launched a campaign to support families struggling through the summer holidays.
The scheme is aimed at low-income families in a response to the rising number of families being dependent upon food bank support.
Research undertaken by the Castlegate shopping centre, highlighted the number of low-income families whose children relied on free school meals and subsequently launched the Grubs Up Club.
Karen Eve, regional manager for the centre management company Knight Frank said: “Our ‘Grubs Up Club’ initiative aims to tackle the holiday hunger issue by delivering a pop-up picnic in the park at the shopping centre.
“It is part of a wider programme of campaigns supporting the community. We have recently opened our affordable Uniform Exchange with other activities underway across the year and we are committed to tackling, championing and supporting issues that matter to people within our local community.”
The Grubs Up Club is located next door to Boots on the High Street and families can visit from 11.30am to 1pm from Monday to Friday.
